You may think you know what “starting” an Internet Marketing business is but it may not be what you think.
Many people think that “starting” Internet Marketing (online marketing, make money online) is clicking around, buying some products they could resell, studying, reading, writing a few blog posts, making a few Facebook posts, or maybe even making a video or two.
That is not “starting”; that is only “dabbling.”
You may find that some or even many people will say “I tried Internet Marketing and it doesn’t work.” Some will even go so far as to say, “It’s a scam.” They do that because they never really “started” Internet Marketing. These are just dabblers!
They only dabbled. If you dabble, you will fail. If you dabble, you will start to wonder if it’s a scam. Dabblers do nothing. Dabblers make no money. Dabblers give Internet marketing a bad name.
Would the people who really “START” Making Money Online please stand up?
I was NOT one of those people when I “started” out to make money online.
Several years ago, I decided that “I am going to find out how people make money online and I am going to do it, too.”
So I started searching on the Internet.
I got on a lot of lists,
I bought a few (or rather a lot) of products
I would buy one product and if I didn’t like it or didn’t understand it, I would put it in the drawer, and I would buy another product.
I was getting bits and pieces from a lot of different sources.
I was listening to a lot of people and what they said.
The more products I bought and the more people I listened to, the more confused and frustrated I got.
After about six months, I came to this conclusion: “Making money online doesn’t work. It’s a scam. Only the gurus can make money online.”
So, I quit–but I really quit something I had never even started!
Then about two years later, I decided that I was going to give it another shot.
Knowing that people were making money and making a lot of it online and I wasn’t one of them, just stayed on my mind. I knew they weren’t any smarter; they just knew more about it than I did. I knew that if I could just get plugged into the right “thing” that I could make it work. I knew it was possible. I knew if I just had somebody helping me, it would work for me.
So once again, I started looking online. I started going through my same cycle of what I had done previously. I was about at the point of quitting (quitting something I had never actually started!) when I watched a video that Matt Lloyd had done at a presentation at one of Jonathan Budd’s events.
Matt said that Internet Marketing was hard work. That stopped me in my tracks. I had never heard one of the “gurus” talk about it being hard work. The only message I ever heard was that you could make a lot of money and do nothing (that may not be what they said, but that was what I received from all the hype that was going on!)
Anyway, Matt continued with saying that you have to learn to track your results and you have to make sure that you are getting a return on your investment and I was blown away. He actually talked about Internet Marketing using terms that even an offline business person would use.
Why is that important? It’s important because Internet Marketing is a business. With any business, whether it is online or offline, you have to market your business, you have to grow your business, you have to make sure your business gets into profit. You expect there to be ups and downs in your business. You make a plan for your business.
I had never heard of anyone in Internet Marketing speak of an online business that way. But it made perfect sense.
That caused me to go over and take a look at what Matt’s business was. That is when I realized that his Internet Marketing business was completely different than the others I had looked at.
Matt Lloyd’s business which is called My Online Business Empire was a real business and he treated it as a real business. The fact that you can make $1K, $3K, and $5K commissions means that you can earn more money quicker.
It does make sense that if I am going to market to get a sale, that I would rather make $1K on that sale than $100 on that sale. High ticket or Top Tier products can get you to $100K a year much quicker than $10 or even $100 products can.
So when did I go from “dabbling” in making money online to really “starting” to make money online?
It was when I realized that Internet Marketing is a real business and like any business, it requires the following.
1. Learn all about the company and its products
2. Learn how you get paid commissions
3. Train in the marketing that works for that business
4. Take action
Remember that any business whether it is offline or online take an investment in both time and money. They both take hard work to get them up and running.
Internet Marketing is not a “get rich quick” business. It is a real business and it must be treated like one.
Now get busy and “start” Internet Marketing and quit your “dabbling”!
